A prickly situation!
Hedgehogs often get stuck in drains, particularly at this time of year when they are starting to look for spots to hibernate – and they are pretty likely to need assistance to get out.
They are most likely to venture down larger drains, which look like appealing winter homes until they get so far in they cannot turn round and get out! So, if you find your main house drain or an outside drain is running slowly, just call Drain Doctor and they can take a quick look with CCTV equipment before they start clearing.
If you do rescue a hedgehog, put it into a secure container or deep box and take it to your nearest hedgehog rescue centre or vet immediately to check it over. They can quickly suffer from hypothermia or could have ingested water or chemicals so will need a quick ‘once over’ before they are released.
