New campaign encourages women to embark on careers in the ‘trades’

A recently launched campaign, ‘Women on the Tools’, is aiming to increase the number of women embarking on careers in trade roles. It states that currently around 11 per cent of the 1.5 million people working in construction-related industries are women, yet only 2 per cent are employed in manual roles. The aim of the awareness campaign is to bring this number up to 50 per cent.

The campaign will be engaging with schools, colleges and employers in the UK to raise awareness of the range of good quality manual careers across a number of sectors, including plumbing.   It has been devised by the charity organisation Women and Manual Trades and marks the 40th anniversary of the organisation and its rebranding as ‘Women on the Tools’.
