Rainwater Harvesting Systems & Installation
With environmental issues and water usage coming increasingly to the fore, more and more homeowners are exploring the potential of rainwater harvesting to optimise water usage and reduce their reliance on mains water. As British summers are getting hotter and hotter, so-called ‘grey water’ systems have the potential to reduce domestic mains water usage by 40 to 50 per cent and cut your water bill by the same amount.
What can rainwater be used for?
Rainwater harvesting creates an additional supply of water that can be used in the garden to water plants and vegetables, wash the car, clean patios and decking. It can even be used in washing machines and to flush toilets. With so many potential uses, clear environmental benefits and significant savings to be made, it’s not surprising that so many new-build developments and major refurbishment projects are including rainwater harvesting installations in their plans.
Different types of rainwater harvesting installation
There are a number of different rainwater harvesting installations that can be used to save, store and use rainwater. They can be broken down into three categories:
- Basic rainwater systems – At their very simplest, rainwater harvesting installations include stands and round water butts with a capacity of up to 400 litres. At Drain Doctor, we can also provide rainwater tanks with a greater capacity, as well as free-standing and submersible water pumps.
- Above-ground rainwater systems – Above-ground rainwater harvesting systems are known for their ease of installation and low cost. Their capacities can range from 800-litre plastic tanks all the way up to 100,000-litre steel tanks for commercial and industrial units.
- Underground rainwater systems – If the amount of space you have above ground is limited, an underground rainwater harvesting installation can be used. The disadvantage of this system is the cost, with excavation work having to be carried out, and the fact that a pump will have to be used to distribute the rainwater from the tank.

Amazingly accommodating, professional and successful
I have to say that I had a major 'toilet' emergency today and to be honest to me it was the end of the world. I'm no plumber and to me I was in a hopeless situation. Well that was until Dr Jon from Drain Doctor arrived! It turned out to be a big job, but with Jon's clear knowledge and experience I knew I was in safe hands. All I can say is Jon turned my toilet nightmare into a happy ending. Professional, knowledgable, witty and fast. Would highly recommend Drain Dr Oxford to one and all.

Mr N Wearne
Just had a visit from Alex, what a thoroughly lovely young man. polite, and very personable . He gave me a no nonsense simple explanation of the problem and how much it was going to be. He then got on with it cleared up after himself and it was all sorted. Wouldn't hesitate to use them again if I needed something done in a hurry. thank you Alex. 10/10
I was charged over a hundred pounds to plunge the bath, they did not not clear the blockage in the pipes which was the job required. Then recommended over three pounds further for a longer term fix which I said no to. I got a different drain company/plumber in and he said they had not cleared any of the pipes and he cleared them at a fraction of the cost.
I just thought I would let you know just how pleased we were with your service. Martin Cotton, Phil and Brian were a real credit to your company. They all worked really hard and were cheerful and optimistic over finding the leak, which was not at all obvious. It was a very difficult job but they were all very professional, and I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation. A credit to your company.
I write to say the recent problem I had with the blocked drains was dealt with by your firm “Drain Doctor”, was of the highest professionalism, from Anne in the office who took my call, to Chris our own ‘Doctor’, who worked very hard, a very pleasant young man a credit to your company. I shall recommend you to anyone I know who has a drain problem.
