Off Mains Drainage

The rules for off-mains drainage have changed.

Make sure your off-mains drainage system complies with the new regulations.

These regulations affect how treated water discharges called 'The General binding Rules', which lays out the requirements you must meet as a property owner. They affect how off-mains drainage systems should be installed, maintained, and wastewater discharges. You should have the off-mains drainage checked first if you are buying a property with a septic tank, cesspool or treatment plant. There are some regional differences. We can advise you on the best way forward with any off mains drainage.

Get in touch with your dedicated local drainage specialists at Drain Doctor. Expert support ensures your off-mains drainage system is up to standard and complies with the latest regulations. We can advise on the best solution and safely and efficiently carry out the work needed.

We install treatment plants, empty tanks, manage wastewater projects, and handle septic tanks' upkeep and more. No call-out charges and 24/7 emergency support. Why not give Drain Doctor a call today?

Septic Tanks

Under the new regulations, discharge from a septic tank must be to a drainage field or soakaway constructed per BS:6297. It may be necessary to obtain a permit to discharge from the Environment Agency in some locations; however, this only happens in exceptional circumstances. Consider the Environment Agency finds evidence that your septic tank discharging to a surface watercourse is causing pollution. In that case, you will need to replace or upgrade your system to avoid a fine.

Are you concerned that your septic tank does not meet current regulations? You can rest assured that Drain Doctor can deliver any necessary services to help you meet them.

We can help you with:

  • Septic Tank Repairs
  • Septic Tank Replacement
  • Septic Tank Maintenance
  • Septic Tank & Cess Pit Emptying and Cleaning
  • Septic Tank Conversions (we work for approved suppliers like Mantair)

We can repair, enhance, maintain your Septic tanks and more. No call-out charges and 24/7 emergency support. Why not give Drain Doctor a call today?

Drainage Fields

Septic tank drainage fields are an integral part of a septic system. Often incorrectly called soakaways, a drainage field is much more than just a soakaway. A drainage field is a specifically designed arrangement of perforated pipework laid in trenches to allow the effluent to filter into the ground.

Assuming your septic tank currently discharges into a watercourse, you will need to install a drainage field (also known as an infiltration system). So the septic tank can release to the ground instead. A drainage field is potentially the most straightforward solution if you have enough suitable land but must meet the BS 6297:2007 code of practice.

At Drain Doctor, our drainage expertise and in-depth knowledge of relevant British Standards allow us to help customers with various systems and requirements. Our services include:
