Drain Doctor Lends a Helping Hand to DIY SOS

Anglia Drain Doctor are delighted to have recently provided support to the BBC television series, DIY SOS, in aid of Caroline Blanchard and her family – who tragically lost both her young daughter and husband in 2007 and 2016 respectively.

This DIY SOS project took place in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, where the Blanchard family have been living for many years. Caroline and her family were approached to take part in DIY SOS following a large number of applications on their behalf, all with the aim of helping them to live happier lives. The building in question was in desperate need of repair, and held many sad memories for the family following the deaths of Natasha and Paul, so DIY SOS began planning to demolish a large part of the home and renovate the remaining, to enable the family to have a fresh start.

As always, DIY SOS put out a call for local volunteers to help with the works a month prior, and were bowled over by the response, not just from local businesses and individuals, but also by those living and working outside the Scunthorpe area. This marks the eighth time that the Drain Doctor network has provided specialist pre-build services free of charge to such a worthy cause.

Work began on the Blanchard’s home on the 25th of April, with the family’s big reveal taking place only five days later on the 30th of April. Because of this tight project turnaround, it was imperative for all involved to conduct work quickly and efficiently. Our team had the important task of providing extensive CCTV Drain Surveys prior to any work commencing, which helped to identify and remove any plumbing or drainage issues in and around the house before changes were made to the building itself and the land.

The transformative work completed by DIY SOS – with the help of local tradespeople and organisations – was a massive achievement, and was commended not only by the Blanchard family but also by a multitude of businesses and individuals across the country.

The Drain Doctor team that attended the works and completed the CCTV Drain Survey said: “It was incredible to see so many different organisations come together in support of the Blanchard family.”

“Getting involved in community projects is really important to us, and to have been involved in something as special as help Caroline and her family makes us feel very proud.”

Headed up by Nick Knowles alongside Billy, Chris, Jules and Mark, DIY SOS entered into its 20th year of programming at the start of the year, and with an average of 4 million viewers per episode number of viewings, is widely regarded as one of the best loved home improvement and lifestyle shows to date. The date for this specific episode of DIY SOS has not yet been released, however you can keep up to date on all programming via the dedicated DIY SOS page via the BBC.
